1. Indian swimmers, Sajjan Prakash and Shreeharri Natraj, were respectively at fifth and seventh place in the men’s 200 meters butterfly and 100 meter backstroke in the 18th Asian Games.

2. The Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army completed a two-week-long platoon level annual joint military exercise. The exercise was named as “Exercise Maitree”.

3. Usman Buzdar has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab.

4. World Humanitarian Day was observed on 19th August 2018 .

5. K S Srinivas has taken charge as the Chairman of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).

6. Drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur scored a hat-trick as the Indian women’s hockey team thrashed lowly Indonesia 8-0 to begin its Asian Games campaign on a rousing note.

7. According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) data, India is still not power surplus as envisaged because peak power deficit in April-July was 0.9 per cent, while overall electricity deficit stood at 0.6 per cent during the 4-month period this fiscal.

8. Kidambi Srikanth-led Indian badminton team got off to a solid start at Asian Games 2018 as they defeated Malaysia 3-0 in their opening match.
